Ice On The Roads

So… we made it to New Hampshire last night, but not without hardship. On our way from Ohio, the roads became so perilously icy that we slid into traffic multiple times, went off the road, and even crashed into a guardrail. The last thing had us waiting a while for a wrecker to help us out, which depended on when the road service decided to salt the ice. Our wheel was stuck in the snow, and our van was tilting over the edge. We needed a wrecker, and we needed one fast.

About an hour went by, calling, praying, and waiting for answers. It turned out that the garages wouldn’t send anyone until the roads were salted, and so we weren’t getting help until that happened. We were fortunate to have a working car and abundant gas, so we were at least not going to freeze, but it took a good thirty minutes before the salter truck arrived. A police officer had complained to the service about the roads, and because we were on a well-known highway, they decided to listen and lay down some salt.

When the wrecker arrived later, he hooked up his equipment but was unable to pull us away from the guardrail. He informed us he would call his boss and wait with us, so, again, we sat in our car and waited. The story ends with his boss pulling us out, us driving on the newly-salted roads, and making it to our Airbnb. The next day was easy, and we finally reached New Hampshire.

So, yeah, crazy stuff! I may have to write an action/adventure story now—I wouldn’t be without knowledge.

Based on what I’ve said, you probably assume this was our first road trip. Nope! My family loves road trips, so it surprised us when we encountered many problems; this is actually our second cross-country road trip this year, and the first went quite smoothly.

Wow, that was a lot! But before I go, I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas! I’m off to grab a tree!

Best wishes,

Michael.
