Songs of Chaos is an epic fantasy book by Michael R. Miller, featuring the incredible journey of a simple pot boy named Holt as he enters a world filled with dragons, scourge, battle, and friendship. You can find the author’s site here, where he keeps up-to-date on his writing projects and other cool stuff! Michael R. Miller is one of my absolute favorite writers (and not just because we share the same first name), so I’m posting my Goodreads reviews of the growing series, Songs of Chaos.

I loved this book and the series in general! I won’t give any spoilers, but if you’re reading this review, I HIGHLY suggest reading Ascendant. Not only is the story broad and vastly developed, but the bond between Holt and Ash is nothing short of fantastic! I was given the books for Christmas and have kept them in perfect condition to the present day, and I still flip them open sometimes to read my favorite scenes. Ascendant was such an amazing book, and it continues to influence my own writing voice.

Another great read in the Songs of Chaos series! This one split up the stories, and to be honest, it was a little tricky to keep up, but I like a good challenge. I’ve gotta say that Aberanth is officially my favorite character from the book. His grumpiness was perfect, and I loved his obsession with mushrooms—I guess that’s where he and Ash disagree; I’d love to see a debate between those two over whether or not mushrooms are worth eating. On to book three!

Wow… just… wow. Defiant was incredible! The emotions were perfect, and the relationships between the characters (particularly the Fire Paragon and his bonded dragon) had a great punch. Aberanth is still my favorite, though I was worried about him in this one. I won’t give any spoilers, but I was so concerned I flipped to the end in search of a resolution. Once again, I must admit I was completely enmeshed in this fantastic, dragon-riddled world, and I can’t wait for book four! I need to understand the lore behind the phoenix, the ape, and whatever other creatures thrive in mystery. There HAS to be more—I know there is….
Dragons have been one of my favorite creatures for years, and I may be one of ‘those’ who believe they exist in some capacity. So, naturally, Songs of Chaos spoke directly to my heart. I want to thank the fantastic Michael R. Miller himself for writing them, as they’ve given me a cast of characters to love and a vast world to explore. I am also proud to say I chose to be an Emerald on his Discord server; I like to think I could hang out in the mountains that way, maybe even hide in a cave when the scourge comes!
